신라진흥왕 21년(560년)에 창건, 원래 다보산 은적암(隱跡庵)이었으나 다보사가 폐허가 된 이후 은적사로 개칭. 철종 7년(1856년)에 준활대사(俊活大師)가 중수하여 현존함. 경내의 중앙에 북향으로 자리하고 있는 藥師殿과 뒤편 우측에 山靈閣만이 남아 있다. 승방은 약사전 우측에 ㄱ자 형으로 이어져 있으며 사찰 주위에는 담장이나 어떤 구조물도 형성되어 있지 않음.
