지금부터 100여년전 일광면 횡계리에 거주하는 김규환의 모가 작은 암자를 창건, 유지하다가 다음 은해사 스님에게 인계, 보수, 증축하여 사찰면모를 갖춤. 3대 주지가 법당을 창건하였고 다음 4대, 5대를 거쳐 지금으로부터 약 20여년전에 현거주지가 법당, 산신각, 용왕당등 기타 건물을 정비하여 현재에 이르고 있음
