1933.10.26일에 박동식(朴東植)과 청신여신도(淸信女信徒)등 30여명의 제기(祭起)로 학성선사(鶴成禪師)가 창건하였다. 그후 6.25동란으로 절의 여신도들은 각기 분산되어 행방을 알 수 없게 되었다. 이후 1952년에 이문용(李文容)외 3명의 승려가 관리하여 왔으며. 그동안 침체된 절을 1973년에 다시 법당을 중수하였다. 1993년에 강선동스님이 대웅전을 신축하여 기존의 법당을 요사채로 활용하여 오다가 2004년 남영복(정오)스님이 개수하여 현재에 이르고 있다.
