599년(신라 진평왕 21년) 원광법사가 당나라에서 유학을 마치고 귀국 후 창건, 수락사라 함 1568년(선조 1년) 선조가 아버지 덕흥대원군의 원당을 건립, 흥덕사라는 편액 하사 1626년(인조 4년) 흥국사로 개명
