화암사는 고찰사이었으나 폐허가 되어 오다가 1938년 김승원이 청진암굴을 재건하였음. 재건 당시에는 바위굴 속에 법당이 있었음. 1976년 석굴 앞 좌측에 원통보전, 우측에 요사를 중건함.
