수타사는 신라 성덕왕 7년(708년)원효대사가 창건 하여 우적산 일월사로 칭하였으나, 조선 세종 3년 (1457년)에 현재 위치로 이전하여 수타사로 하였으며, 수타사 경내에는 대적광전(강원도유형문화재 제17호)을 중심으로 대적광전내에 후불탱화(강원도유형문화재 제122호)와 지장탱화(강원도 유형문화재 제123호)가 문화재로 지정되어 있으며 월인석보(보물제845호)동종( 보물제11-3호)등 많은 문화유적 유물들을 소장하고 있음.
