태영사는 천태산의 산록에 위치하여 남창항이 한눈에 내려다 볼 수 있는 사찰로서 1552년(명종7년)에 창건되었다고 전함. 당총에는 七星庵이라 불렀으나 임란으로 폐허된 후 중수를 계속하여 1976년에 태영사로 개칭하였으며 1985년에 폭풍우로 파괴도이어 중건 길다란 평지위에 대웅전을 남동향으로 배치시키고 요사를 약간 엇갈리게 배치하였음
