1552년(명종7년)에 창건되었다고 전함 당초에는 칠성암이라 불렸으나 임란으로 폐허된 후 중수를 계속하여 1976년에 태영사로 개칭하였으며 1985년에 폭풍우로 파괴되어 중건.
