청계사는 성산산성 또는 견훤성 내에 자리한 고찰이다. 전하는 말로는 신라말기 도선국사가 창건하였다 하며 1730년에는 절 옆에 창사(倉舍)를 옮겨 세우기도 하였다 50여간이나 되는 큰 절이 1905년 의병활동이 전개될 때 이 절이 의병의 근거지가 되어 1907년 왜병들의 방화로 소실되고 1924년 청신녀 김씨(淸信女 金氏)가 현재의 법당을 다시세웠다
