이곳에 절터만 남아있는 지곡사(智谷寺)는 통일신라때 응진(應眞)스님이 창건하여 처음 절이름을 국태사(國泰寺)라 하였고 고려초에 혜월(慧月)스님에 이어 진관(眞觀)스님(912∼964)이 크게 중창하여 고려전기에는 선종 5대산문의 하나로 손꼽히는 대찰이었으나 1913년 전후에 폐사되었다.
