정암사는 광천읍 담산리 오서산(烏栖山) 중복에 있는 사찰로 일명 정암사(正庵寺)라고도 한다. 4동 40평에 도금목질불(鍍金木質佛) 4좌가 봉안되어 있는데 동국여지승람(東國與地勝覽)에 의하면 고려 때에 창건하였고 대운대사(大雲大師)가 중수하였다는 기록이 있다. 현재의 정암사는 1976년에 중창한 정면3칸, 측면2칸의 대웅전이 있고, 그 양쪽 옆면과 앞쪽에 요사채가 있어 대체로 ㅁ자형의 구조를 하고 있다.
