o 통일신라 31대 신문왕 8년 서기 688년에 의상대사께서 창건함 o 왜구의 약탈행위를 불법의 힘으로 물리치려는 원력으로 처음에는 봉국사라 하였다가 임란시 오국사상이 투철하신 사명대사께서 외로운 승군을 이끄시고 주석하여 그후 절 이름을 의림사 라 개칭함
