Recorded origin, in the register's own words
조선 초기에는 상원사라 했는데 숙종 무렵 상원사는 없어지고 터만 남음. 그뒤에 정명암이라 하였다가 없어지고 1920년에 이주부에 의해 중창되었는데 이때 은수사로 개칭. 은수사란 이름은 태조 이성계가 이곳의 물을 마시고 물이 은같이 맑다고 한 것에서 붙여진 것.
