유석사는 소백산의 도솔봉 남편에 있다. 신라 효소왕 3년(694년) 창건되어 고려 공민왕 17년(1368)에 중창되었으며, 1928년 제봉스님이 중건하였다. 신라 의상조사가 이 절 앞에 있던 느티나무 아래반석에서 묵고 간 일이 있다고 하여 절을 짓고 유석사라 했다.
