신라 흥덕왕 2년 도성국사가 창건하였고 진성여왕 3년(899)에 탐잔선산가 중건, 영조 48년(1772) 낙암선사에 의해 중수되었다. 대웅전은 정면 4칸, 측면 2칸의 맞배 지붕이며 취적루는 정면 4칸, 측면2칸의 맞배지붕임. 속암으로는 수도암, 청신암, 도성암이 있음.
