ㅇ 제주시 오라2동 656-2번지에 위치한 월정사는 1871년 토굴을 이용 불사를 일으켜 세운후 1938년 사찰의 면모를 갖추었으나, 4ㆍ3사건으로 모든 건물이 전소됨 ㅇ 1974년부터 현 주지스님에 의해 불사를 시작하여 현재의 사찰 모습으로 조성하였고 ㅇ 최근에는 동 사찰이 소장하고 있는 목조보살입상과 니조여래좌상이 제주도지정문화재로 지정되는 등 우리 나라 불상연구를 이해하는데 중요한 사찰임 ㅇ 그리고 석조 약사여래입상과 지하에 천불을 조성하는등 불교 문화적 가치가 매우 높은 사찰임
