1000년전 신라 경순왕 4년(930)에 성도 율사가 창건하였고 현재 대웅전은 40년전 김월하 스님에 의해 중창되고 산신각 및 금불로서 이조 초기 시대에 대표적인 좌불이다 또한 근래에는 상운 화상의 원력으로 모든 당우를 재건하였으며 월봉사는 유구한 역사를 가지고 있다
