고려시대 나옹화상이 만든 목조관세음보살상을 보유하고 있는 사찰로 역사성이 있는 사찰임. 1936년 박태호스님이 단양군 대강면 대흥사가 소실되어 불상을 가지고 와서 현위치에 사찰을 건립.
