구전에 의하면 가락국때 창건되었다고 하고 다른 설에 의하면 원효대사가 부산진구 소재 선암사를 짓고 산을 넘어와 운수사를 지었는데 임란때 소실되었다가 1660년 경 중건되었다 하나 믿을 만한 증거는 없음.
