대한제국 광무6년(1902)에 고종 엄비의 명에 의하여 청주군수 이회복이 창건 용화사 사적기에는 엄비의 꿈에 7불이 나타나 이상하게 생각하여 사람을 보내 찾도록 하고 무심천변에 7구의 석불이 발견되어 이를 옭겨 법당에 안치하고 향화를 올렸다 함.
