삼국시대 원효대사에 의해 창건되었던 백산사가 그 효사라고 구전으로 전해내려 오고 있음. 현재 옥련암은 1935년 중건되었다가 1976년 대웅전을 시작으로 불사가 이루어졌고 옥련선원으로 개칭함.
