백담사에서 영시암을 지나 약6㎞ 정도 올라가면 만경대 아래에 위치하고 있다. 조계종 소속의 백담사 부속암자이다. 643년(선덕여왕 12)에 창건하여 觀音庵이라 하였으며, 1548년(명종 3)에 보우가 중건하였다. 이 암자를 오세암이라 한 것은 1643년(仁祖 21)에 雪淨이 중건한 다음부터이다
