장군산 쌍봉 중턱에 있던 조선초기의 창건사찰인 효제암지에 1908년 일연대사가 복원하여 효제암으라 했으나 6·25사변시 소실 1955년 재복원하였으며 1986년 효제암지에 대웅전이 건립되면서 영평사로 개칭 현재에 이르고 있음
