연수암의 창건연대는 정확히 알수 없으나 남장사(예 사찰명 : 장백사)가 인접해 있는 것으로 보아 장백사의 여러 암자중 하나로 추정되고 있으며 연수암은 천연의 바위를 둥지로 자리하고 있으며 연꽃이 피는 모양아래 샘물이 항상 나온다 하여 사찰명을 연수암이라 하였다. 연수암은 어느시기엔가 소실되고 있다가 1940년 중반에 재건립되고 그 당시에 세운 9층석탑과 기단부에 사자2마리가 받치고있는 석등이 있으며, 삼존불과 십일면관세음보살입상을 봉안하고 있다
