창건 당시 매우 번창하였다 하나 절 근처에 큰 바위를 깨뜨린 후로는 쇠퇴하여졌다고 하며, 100여년 전에 무녀가 절터에서 금덩어리를 발견하고 국가에 헌납하여 보상금으로 양천암을 지었다고 한다
