본사찰은 전주역 부근 인후공원 초입에 위치하고 있으며 사찰의 건물은 전통목조가 아닌 일반콘크리트조로 건립되었으며 사찰 맞은편 산기슭에 약수가 있어 많은 이용객이 왕래하고 있고 약수터로 인하여 사찰이름도 약수암이라 칭했음.
