- 사찰은 신라후기에 처음 창건된 것으로 추정됨(8세기경). - 조선중기에 승려 知遠이 크게 重修하였으나 壬辰倭亂 때 義兵들의 失火로 인하여 燒失됨. - 임진왜란 후 중건하였으나 겨우 사세만 유지하다가 150여년 전에 廢寺됨. - 2001년 이후 本海스님에 의해 중창중에 있음
