신륵사는 신라 진평왕 때 원효대사가 창건하였다고 전하며 1469년 세종대왕릉을 광주에서 이곳에 천장하고 영릉의 원찰로 삼고 크게 번창하였다고 한다. 경내 동대에 강월헌에서 고승 나옹대사가 입적한 곳이며 신륵사에 보유된 문화재로는 보물180호 조사당을 비롯한 8점의 문화재와 많은 유물 유적이 있다.
