고려 원종3년 보각국사가 창건하여 봉림사라 하였으며 조선 현종8년(1667)에 상견대사가 중창하고 1878년 다시 중수를 거쳐 신둔사라 개칭하고 1926년 송호화상이 중창하여 지금에 이르고있다.
