신녕 포교당은 원래 법륜사로 개창하였다고 하는데, 남아 있는 부도가 1880년(고종 17)에 조성된 것이어서 법륜사의 초창은 19세기 후반임을 알 수 있다. 현재 있는 포교당의 건립은 1924년 박희웅 화상에 의해 세워졌고, 1961년 학산 스님이 발원하여 포교당 내 산령각을 건립하고 산신도를 봉안하였다. 그래서 입구에 신녕 포교당과 법륜사의 푯말이 나란히 적여 있다. [출처] 한국학중앙연구원 - 향토문화전자대전
