최초의 창건연대는 전하는 바가 없고 옛터에 창건된 근세의 암자임. 수정암 선방의 성량문에서 나온 기록을 보면 이곳의 암자에 살던 장태수 비구니가 탄웅화상을 도와 퇴락한 법주사를 중건한후에 현수정암터에 내선방을 중건하였다고 전해지고 있음.
