배제성왕 7변 아도화상이 개산하여 비로암이라 하고 통일신라 말 도선국사가 중창하면서 오늘의 선암사라함. 정유재란으로 모두 전소되고 인조 22년(1644)부터 현종 1년(1660)까지 중창 불사가 이루어지고 19세기초에 대대적인 중창사업 마무리 됨
