대흥사의 암자로 약 1200년경에 북암마을 암자로 있다가 고려말에 없어짐 그 후 조선시대까지 산 중턱에 있다가 산사태로 인하여 대웅전 요사가 멸실되어 1866년 대웅전 요사건물만 이전복원 하였음
