산혜암은 일명 월산사라고도 한다. 홍성의 진산인 백월산 중복에 있는데 3동 29평의 고찰로, 도금목질불(鍍金木質佛) 2좌와 목불(木佛) 1좌가 봉안되어 있다. 1,300여년전에 무렴국사(無染國師)가 창건하였다고 하나 고려 후기에 창건한 것으로 추측된다. 현재 사역 안에는 1985년에 새로 건축한 정면3칸, 측면2칸의 대웅전과 정면5칸, 측면3칸의 요사채가 있다.
