봉영사는 진접읍 천점산에 있는 사찰로 599년(신라 진평왕21)에 창건하고 봉인암이라고 불렀으나 1755년(영조21)묘역을 순강으로 꾸미면서 절 이름도 봉영사로 바꾸었다.
