조선 현종때 창건한 후 1943년 경두익 화상이 중건하였으며 1954년 이경순비구니가 박고봉선사를 조실로 원통선원 운영, 1985년 대웅전, 삼경각, 종각, 오사등을 지어 현재의 규모가 됨 1962년 재단법인 선학원에 등록하고 현재 30여명의 비구니가 참선중
