(연혁) - 최초창건 : 864년 (경문왕 4)에 청환스님이 창건하여 보림암이라 하였다 - 1845년에 요사채를 신축 - 1886년에 극락전을 신축 - 1939년에 삼성각을 신축 (사찰관련 유래) - 통일신라 경문왕 4년에 보조국사가 수제자 청환법사에게 명하여 창건하였다고 한다. 누차 소실되고 일제 강점기때는 위봉사의 말사로 존속하였으며 현재는 선운사 말사로 있는데 1992년 정부의 지원으로 중건되었다
