1934년 강대희에 의해 건립된 사찰로서 건립당시 요사1동뿐이었으나, 이후 보문전,삼성각,동별당이 건립되었으며, 처음에는 남산사이였으나, 1961년 보광사로 개칭되었음 1988년 전통사찰 제15호로 등록되었으며 입구의 부도2기는 1949년 보광사 동북쪽 약1km지점에 위치한 법흥사지에서 옮겨온 것임
