1520년 조선태고종 5대 정통인 벽송 지엄대사가 창건한 사찰로서 처음에는 벽송암이라고 했으나 1704년 소실되었다가 중건되었으며, 6.25동란으로 다시 솔실되었다가 30여년 전 신도들이 불사로 중건되어 오늘에 이르고 있다.
