법천사는 대한불교조계종 제15교구 본사인 통도사의 말사로 동면 금산휴먼시아아파트에서 2.5㎞ 떨어진 마을 뒷산인 금정산 중턱에 자리하고 있으며, 옛 지명인 ‘냉정골’의 이름을 본 따 ‘냉정사(冷井寺)’라고도 불린다. 절에서 북쪽으로 약 100m 떨어진 곳에 약수로 유명한 냉정의 샘터가 있었는데 지금은 메워져 그 흔적만 남아 있다. 1901년 이 샘을 ‘법이 솟는 샘’이라 하여 냉정사(冷井寺)에서 법천사(法泉寺)로 개명하게 된 것이다. 주 법당인 극락보전을 비롯해 산신각, 요사 3동, 공양간 등을 갖추고 있으며, 현재 불교교리연구, 중생계도, 참선 등에 몰두하는 불도량의 역할을 다하고 있다.
