우리나라 최남단에 위치한 사찰로 749년 의회가 창건 미황사 사적비에 창건설화가 나와 있으며 1597년 정유재란으로 소실되자 1598년에 중건 헌종 1년에 3창하고 女右가 중수하여 오늘에 이름. 대웅전,응진전,명부전,요사채 등이 있다.
