무진암은 무량사의 암자로 매월당 김시습 부도 등 고승들의 부도를 지키기 위해 조선시대에 건립되었음. 조선 중종 25년(1530)에 보현사로 개칭되었다가 선조 25년(1592)임진왜란 시 전소된 것을 조선말엽 중건하였으며 1890년대부터 대웅전 등을 복원 오늘에 이르고 있음.
