백제시대에 선운사와 함께 창건되었다고 전해지는 유서 깊은 사찰로 사명에서 보듯 미륵신앙을 배경으로 창건되었으며 대웅전은 정면 3칸, 측면은 3칸의 맛배지붕 건물이며 나한전은 조선후기 건물로 그 앞에는 고려시대의 석탑이 있고 도솔천 내원궁에는 보물 280호 금동지장보살을 모시고 있음.
