대한불교조계종 제11교구 본사인 불국사(佛國寺)의 말사이다. 경상북도 경주시 안강읍 옥산리 도덕산(道德山) 중턱에 있다. 지금은 폐사된 신라 때의 절 정혜사(淨惠寺)의 12암자 중 하나로, 신라 경덕왕 때 건립되었다. 원래 두덕암(斗德庵)이라고 부르다가 조선 중종 때의 문신 회재(晦齋) 이언적(李彦迪)이 정혜사에 잠시 머물러 수학할 때 도덕암으로 고쳐 불렀다고 한다. 임진왜란 때 경주향교의 위패를 보관한 곳이기도 하다. [네이버 지식백과] 도덕암 [道德庵] (두산백과, 두산백과)
