두륜산 도립공원내에 위치한 대흥사는 조계종 제22교구 본사로서 사적 및 명승제 9호로 지정되어 있으며 백제 무령왕 14년(514)에 신라 승려 아도화상이 창건한 고찰로서 주변자연경관이 빼어난 곳이면, 대웅전 앞 3층석탑을 비롯한 보물 4점, 지방유형분화재 9점 등이 있고 전통茶道의 맥을 이어가고 있는 일지암과 서산대사의 유품을 전시한 성보박물관 등이있음
