ㅇ원각 상월(圓覺上月, 1911~1974)이 1945년 5월 ‘억조창생 구제중생 구인사(億兆蒼生救濟衆生救仁寺)’라는 이름으로 창건하였다. ㅇ1만여 명을 동시에 수용할 수 있는 5층짜리 현대식 콘크리트 건물인 대법당 설법보전(說法寶殿)과 목조 대강당인 광명당(光明堂), 관음전 등 50여 동의 전각을 건립하였다. ㅇ1976년 삼보당에 청동으로 조성한 상월 조사상을 봉안하였고, 1977년에 상월대조사비를 세웠다. 2008년에 천태종 역대조사전 건립하였음 ㅇ2013년 사찰 입구에 불교천태중앙박물관을 건립·개관하였다.
