당초 원당사라 불리어 왔으며일설에 의하면 명성황후 모친께서 아들을 낳기 위하여 이 사찰에서 불공을 올렸다는 설이 있어 1800년대에 창건된 것으로 추정되며 어느때 폐사되었는지 기록은 없으나 경내에 건물의 흔적이 있던 것을 1970년대 대웅전,지장전,삼성각,종각 등을 건립하였다
