원래 영은사로써 백제 무왕 37년 (636년) 영은스님이 창건하였으며 조선 중종 34년 (1539) 폐찰되었는데 명종 22년(1567) 희묵스님이 중건하는 등 여러차례 중수가 있었다 한국전쟁때인 1951년 1월 25일 소실된 것을 이후 복원하여 현재의 모습을 갖추었다
