내원암은 신라때 창건되었다고 전하고 있으며 조선 후기부터 사찰의 면모를 갖춰 1794년(정조18)봄 정초가 친히 광응전이라고 명하였다. 유형문화재 제197호(2004.11.29)로 지정된 내원암 쾌불은 1885년에 조성된 것으로 구도는 대담하고 간략하며 크게 마름모꼴을 이루는 특이한 인물 배치를 보이고 있는 괘불이다.
