1929.3.15 창건되었으며, 일제시대 일본인들이 이 자리에 건물을 지어놓고 독립투사,군민 등 무고한 사람들을 학살하는 사형장소로 사용하였다고 한다. 이에 억울하게 죽어간 사람들의 넋을 위로하기 위해 윤금호 스님께서 그 터를 영단으로 하여 금정사를 창건하였다고 전해짐
